History of Orange County, Samuel Armor, 1921. Detailed history and biography.
Cattle on a Thousand Hills, Robert Glass Cleland. A fine, documented history of this area prior to 1880 (There are other fine books by Mr. Cleland available.)
Caminos Viejos, Terry Stephenson. Many stories of the "Old Trails" including the stopping of the American army at Rancho Los Coyotes.
Orange County Through Four Centuries, Leo Friis. A fine history by this past president of the Orange County Historical Society.
The Golden Road, Felix Riesenberg. The missions, stagecoaches, etc. on El Camino Real.

There are many books and articles by local historians such as C. E. "Ted" Parker and Don Meadows that can be obtained for reference purposes either through the library or the Buena Park Historical Society.

Notes of a Military Reconnoisance, by W. H. Emory, 1848, can be obtained by the library from the State Library in Sacramento for anyone interested in the entire trip of the Army of the West under General Kearny. Maps of the trip and the battles are in the library.
